In this week’s blog, I want to encourage you to be thankful despite your current circumstances. The amplified version of 1Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” During this time of the year, people take time to spend with family and friends and express thanks for the things they are grateful for. This year is no different despite civil unrest, the recent elections, and the global pandemic we are currently experiencing. Millions of people will be missing a mother, father, husband, wife, child, or another member of their family due to COVID, recent killings, sickness, or natural causes. Some families will be able to look around and see that their family chain is still intact. Whatever the circumstance, I encourage you to be grateful. Not only on this day but every day.
Make a choice not to waste time being upset about frivolous or minute things. Don’t waste any more energy on situations that are beyond your control. Take time to enjoy life and family. Enjoy being loved by those who hold you close and express the gratitude and love you have for them. Despite what is going on, it still does not change God’s will, which is to be thankful and to give thanks continually. Although things may not be the way you want them to be, think about the fact you still have life. Losing a loved one is hard, and depending on the relationship, it may seem impossible to move on without them at times. Take comfort in knowing Father God knows what you are going through, and He is willing and able to carry you through. He is willing and able to give you strength and a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Spending the holidays with family this year will look very different for everyone, but let’s be grateful for the loved ones that are still here. Time is valuable. Use your time to plan your next move in life. Take time to write your God-given vision out and then actually begin working towards it. Be grateful for the accomplishments you have made and work towards other goals you have set for yourself. Don’t let time pass you by. Allow God to show you your next move in Him and be obedient to what He shows you. Whatever state you find yourself in at this very moment, know that it could be a lot worse. Allow gratefulness to fill your heart and move forward in life, but most of all, move forward in God.
Thank you for reminding us to be thankful. All of us will experience problems at some point in our lives, but we also have more to be thankful for than to complain about.
