Growing up, I watched Popeye the Sailor Man. This cartoon was infamous for teaching kids the importance of eating healthy and spoke of particularly eating spinach. Popeye had an adversary named Bluto. If you have ever seen the cartoon, you know that Popeye is short and skinny compared to Bluto, who is taller and built. One thing about Popeye’s character is, he never allowed himself to be bullied by Bluto. Popeye always stood his ground and never backed down to Bluto, even during the physical fights. During the fights, it seemed as if Popeye was going down for the count, but then he would remember his spinach, and he would eat it. When he ate it, he got a second wind. He grew muscles, and he was able to defeat Bluto every time.
In this life, we are going to face all kinds of obstacles. Sometimes those obstacles seem like they are too much for you to bear and that you are going down for the count. It is during these times that we must pull on the Word of God. God’s Word gives us strength, courage, and direction. God’s Word is so powerful. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” God’s Word can restore and bring hope where there is no hope. Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” There is no failure in God and the promises He makes.
Just because your current situation is not as you desire it to be, does not mean that God is not able. We must continue to not only trust the Word of God, but we must speak it out loud. Remember our words create, so if we speak God’s Word in faith, which has power, your situation must change. Everything must line up with what God says. We must settle in our minds and hearts that we will trust God and take Him at His Word. God watches over His Word to perform it. I encourage you to find a scripture that speaks to your situation and put the Word on it. What do I mean by that? Once you find your scripture read it over and over so that it will get in your spirit. Meditate on it. When you feel yourself beginning to worry, start speaking the scripture out loud over and over. Start thanking God in advance for the situation turning in your favor. You must see it, before you it. You have to see your situation changing before it changes. That’s faith! In a sense, we are Popeye, and the spinach is the Word of God. Unlike Popeye, we should not wait until we are in a battle to read God’s Word. Eat the Word of God daily. Make reading God’s Word a part of your routine. Don’t allow your situation to bully you into silence; boldly declare the Word of God and watch your status change for the better.
