Have you ever felt like there was a distance between you and God? Have you ever had so many things going on around you that has your attention to the point it gets hard to hear Him? How do you combat those feelings of being alone and thoughts that God is not there with you?
Let’s think about it in the natural. If you are in a relationship with a person and it seems that the person is distant, what will you do? Talk to them. You may call them on the phone to discuss the problem, or if you are like me, you would have a face-to-face conversation. I like to look at a person’s mannerisms. My point is you have a chat to express how you feel and listen and receive what the other person is feeling. Father God is the same way.
First, let me say that God does not leave us; we leave Him. God promises in His Word that He would always be with us, so the thought of God not being near is coming from our actions, not God. One of the beautiful things about God is that He is always there with open arms to receive us when we go astray or if we lose focus for just a moment. God’s desire for an intimate relationship with us is strong, and He loves hard! He wants us to experience true heaven here on earth. Therefore, we must remain faithful to what we know is true. Despite everything we may experience or go through, the grace and mercies of God will forever remain.
Don’t accept the feelings of there being a distance between you and God. Remember that our emotions are fickle, and we cannot rely on them. I will repeat it; we must remain faithful to what we know is true. What are some other things we do in the natural? We make it a point to spend time or extra time with that person. We may buy or make that person a gift to show them how much they are loved and needed. Another fantastic factor about our God is we don’t have to buy Him anything. God loves it when we praise and worship Him. He loves it when we love on Him and do what He speaks to us to do.
It is important to remember that things aren’t how they always seem. Sometimes we haven’t distanced ourselves from God at all. Think about it, millions of thoughts come across our minds daily, so could the thought of you not feeling like God is near be just that, a fleeting thought. The Bible encourages us to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. We have to make sure that we ponder on the right thoughts. We have to think about what we are thinking about! Personally, there have been times where I felt like God was nowhere around. God spoke to me, and I was encouraged to press past how I felt and rely upon the truth that I knew about Him. I want to encourage you to do the same thing. Press past how you feel and rely on the truth of God’s Word. As you do that, you become anchored in your faith that God is real and God will do just what He said!
