Fear is real, and if you allow it, it will control every part of your life. Fear can prevent you from starting a new career, going back to school, or cutting people out of your life that causes you pain, or it can prevent you from accomplishing your dreams and goals. Fear can hold you hostage and suffocate your life, peace, and joy. What is fear? According to Webster, fear is an unpleasant, often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger. If you are currently battling with fear, ask yourself, what am I afraid of? If I choose to walk away from this friendship or relationship that I know is toxic, what do I think will happen that scares me to the point that I’d rather stay than be free? Ask yourself why you chose to stay with the job you are at but chose not to strive for more. Have you become comfortable with where you are? Are you afraid the next level will require more of you? What is the thing that scares you so much or brings anxiety to the point that you are willing to risk everything that you could have to settle for what you have now? Are you afraid of the unknown?
I have good news for you, there is freedom from fear! The Word of God says that God has not given us the spirit of fear. There is your answer. The feeling of fear does not come from God. It says He has given power, love, and a sound mind. Let me rephrase that for you. God has given you authority, love, and self-control. You have the power within you to overcome anything, and that includes fear! How do you overcome fear? There must be a realization that the Word of God is true, and that takes place in your heart. You have to make a choice to believe. The definition of believe is to accept the word or evidence of. How do you find out if something is true or not? You try it. You literally have to try it. Think about it…when a new restaurant opens up, and you hear people bragging about the food that is served there. You don’t know about the food until you decide to try it for yourself.
It is the same way with living for Christ. We hear testimonies of people we know and see how some people exhibit a sense of peace and calmness when we know for ourselves that they are going through tough times. That brings me to a short sidebar. As Christians, we have to remember people are watching us, and some trust us enough to believe us when we speak. We must be willing to talk about what God has done for us. I am not just talking about the material things; I am talking about how God helped us through those tough times. Being willing to talk about your battle with Depression, your weakness in overeating, and your struggle to overcome drug addiction. We also have to be ready to talk about the struggles we still battle with. If we are not willing to be transparent, how will people know that God loves us and is willing and able to help us. Becoming a believer is an act of faith. God is the source of our existence, and He is our Creator. His Word encourages us to taste and see that the Lord is good, and it also tells us that we will be blessed if we take refuge in Him! Allowing God into your heart is the best decision you can ever make. Not only will you experience freedom over fear, but you will also experience the benefits that come with serving God. Are you curious? Let’s pray this prayer.
I need you. I realize that I cannot make it without you. You Lord God are my source and my Creator. I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and you now live and hold all power in your hands. Come into my life and save me. Cleanse and restore me. Lord God let your perfect will be done in my life. Thank you for loving me and now I ask that you help me to love myself. I ask that you help me to begin to see myself as you see me. In Jesus name, Amen!
Reading God’s Word is critical. The Bible is filled with instructions and promises from God. Knowing God’s Word for yourself is crucial because when tough times come, you will be able to recall and speak the Word of God over your situation. Ask God to lead you to a ministry where you can learn more about Him. This is also an excellent way to ask questions and receive clarity about what you study. You will also be among like believers who become your cheerleaders on your new journey!
