Parents, I think you would agree with me when I say it brings pure joy to reward an obedient child. When you notice how respectful they are, they not only listen to what you say, but they obey. It’s the obedience for me! Think about it. When you live a life of obedience to God, that is what happens; you experience His favor. I believe God is pleased when he sees us walking in obedience and allows us to experience the benefits of it.
Esther is a prime example of a person who had favor! When you get a chance, read the book of Esther. There are so many things that you could glean from it. To make a long story short, during a banquet held by King Xerxes, he summoned Queen Vashti. Vashti refused to come, and this angered King Xerxes. As a result, Queen Vashti was forbidden to come into the presence of the King. King Xerxes had to find another queen, so he summoned for all the young virgins to come to the palace. During this time, they would undergo beauty treatments for 12 months. They would then be brought before the King, and he would choose his queen.
Esther was one of the young virgins brought to the palace. Esther was a Jew, and she was raised by her cousin Mordecai. Esther was very beautiful, and from the very beginning, she found favor. Esther 2:8-9 says, “When the King’s order and edict had been proclaimed, many young women were brought to the citadel of Susa and put under the care of Hegai. Esther also was taken to the King’s palace and entrusted to Hegai, who had charge of the harem. She pleased him and won his favor. Immediately he provided her with her beauty treatments and special food. He assigned to her seven female attendants selected from the King’s palace and moved her and her attendants into the best place in the harem.” One of the things I thought about is when the favor of God is on you; there is nothing anyone can do about it. When you know the favor of God is on your life, there is nothing to be ashamed about. There is a reason and a purpose for God’s favor. In the instance of Esther, it was to save her people.
The story goes on, and of course, Esther was crowned queen. I firmly believe that God will strategically place his people where they need to be to create change and right wrongs. Don’t despise or question where God has you at this moment in time. There is a purpose for your current position. God knows what He is doing; you must trust Him and be obedient. So let’s look at how Esther was being obedient. Before Esther was brought to the palace, Mordecai gave her instructions. He told her not to reveal her nationality and family background. When Mordecai uncovered a conspiracy to kill King Xerxes, he reported it to Queen Esther. She, in turn, reported it to the King and gave credit to Mordecai. When she was informed of Haman’s plot to destroy the Jews, Mordecai sent word to Queen Esther that she must speak to the King concerning this. However, this is where Queen Esther is met with pressure. Legally she could not go before the King unless she was summoned. She could have been put to death if she had come before him without being summoned, and he did not allow her to come. The story goes on to say that she asked Mordecai and the Jews to go on a three day fast. She asked them not to eat or drink anything. After the fast she was going to go before the King on the behalf of her people. She was willing to lay down her life.
It is vital that you are in the right place at the right time. Sometimes a person’s life may depend upon it. Pretty heavy, right? Esther did go before the King and her request was granted. Do not to take your assignment lightly. Again, remember there is purpose in your position. You may not understand it, but God knows what He is doing. He needs us to be obedient and allow Him to order our steps.
Thank you for the favor that rest upon or lives. We ask you to help us to walk in obedience to the things that you have called us to. Help us to take our eyes off people and focus on you. We thank you for the opportunity to be used by you and we do not take this for granted. Our prayer is that we see through the eyes of faith and hear you clearly. We pray that everything we put our hands to prospers as long as it is according to your will. Our desire is to be in your will so that your favor will continue to follow us all the days of our life. In Jesus Name Amen!
